Pregnant!

I am really happy to announce that my wife and I are pregnant. She’s a little over 11 weeks right now and has been to two prenatal visits where we’ve gotten to see ultrasounds and hear the heartbeat which the Dr. said was real strong.  With us going to be first time parents we are both nervous about being parents, well actually nervous about the whole process.  So far the sue date is Sept 24th so we are counting down to the day.

Mounds of Work

It would be easier if I explained what my department does before I get into any details so here’s a quick overview. When a new subdivision is designed engineers from the phone company come out and determine what is needed to provide phone, cable and DSL to all homes. They note what size cable to use, how long the cable needs to be and any other equipment. They draw it on paper, give it to contractors that install the equipment. Any changes are made on the paper then it’s mailed to our dept. Our dept draws the details of what was installed into a AutoCad type system and give details on the items which is saved into the database. This is basically record keeping so the phone company can do inventory and tell how much money they are worth.

Now what we call count on the cable means there has to be a pair of cables that run from the central office to the house for a good connections. So if two cables are spliced together and a pair in the cable is not in the other cable then that causes a problem. Now it’s right out there in real life, just not right in the system. These are called sourcing errors. Well we had 25,000 sourcing errors in the south east united states. I went through and fixed what I could then sent them off to the engineers to verify the correct resolution to the error then report back. Here is the stack of papers I have back so far and this is about 15% of the cities in the SE that we service. That one huge stack in front is for one city.

Pile o' work

And this is the amount of work I completed in 8 working days.
Completed pile o' work

As you can see I will be busy for some time to come. This also means that I have not had time to work on my Java program while at work and will not be able to for awhile.

Onto personal items, I had my annual checkup at work and found out what I already knew. That my good cholesterol was too low and my bad cholesterol was too high but not too high. I have been trying to run more on the treadmill to help get my cholesterol in order. Well that’s all for now.

Social Networking and music

With millions of people on social networking sites it has become very easy for musicians to get their music out to people. Gone are the times when you had to get yourself on MTV or played on the radio to get attention. Gone are the times when you had to impress a record executive to get a record deal(for the most part).

This brings about more and more bands that we would have never heard of before. I get many requests from bands on myspace. I honestly go to their profile and listen to their music. If I like their music I send then a message and add then as a friend. If I don’t like their music but see their talent I send a message but don’t add them. I have gotten two CDs and a DVD from one band for free for being their friend and I did not have even have to pay shipping. I want to share the list of maybe unknown bands that are on my myspace with everyone so here they are in no particular order.
