Fatherhood
Sawyer’s Weekend
This past weeked was a rather busy one. We had a birthday party to go to for one of Kecia’s friends one year old, then we headed to a cookout that Kecia’s family put on at a park. At the party Sawyer was not shy and just cruised around the furniture, walked around some and played with some of the the little girls toys. I was surprised that the big crowd in the house did not bother him. We had some cake and ice cream then we headed on the cookout.
At the cookout it was rather cool and windy outside. So windy that we had to hang on to out plates of they’d blow away in the wind. When we walked into the convered area her aunt took Sawyer(she does not get to see him too often), and fed him for us. There was the usual hamburgers and hotdogs and some various desserts that were nice. After 3 hotdogs, chili and some chips I was ready for desert. With so many different desserts I had to try a little bit of each. We met back up with Sawyer on the playground. Me and Kecia’s sister slid him down a slide a few times with her holding onto him. He really seemed to enjoy, at least the first few times. Then we moved over to the swings, this town has a swing that he can actually sit in, you know the little basket looking one. I say ’this town’ because out little town does not have one. So we sat him down in one of those and he was content with swinging.
I got a swing and started swinging only to feel my stomach feel funny. Almost like riding a ride at the fair. I did not remember feeling this way when I was young. Kecia and her sister also felt the same feeling so it was not just me. Amazing how when you get older you body reacts to activities differently.
Then Sunday we headed over to Burt’s Pumpking Farm. He really enjoyed checking out the pumkins. He would touch one, then look over and touch another one.
We picked out a pumpking to carve and one for a pie. Then we took Ssawyer on a hay ride through the farm. Since we sat in the front of the trailer Sawyer got a good look at the tractor from this view point and he really liked watching the back wheels turn. We plan to carve the pumpkin sometime this week using a Mickey Mouse Template, hope it turns out good.
Sawyer’s One Year Old!
Where has the time gone? We had his birthday party on Saturday and he had a good time. The theme was Baby Mickey since he loves Mickey Mouse. He also received a few Mickey Mouse gifts along with a wagon, a Lightning McQueen electric ride on toy, toy basketball goal and a drum(since he likes banging on things) among other things. The wagon has two seats, a storage compartment, seat belts and cup holders. I did not have a wagon like this when I was a child.
He really liked his little cake and dove into it with a little help from mommy. Even with frosting all over his cake he was still all smiles.
I have never really thought about it before(as it pertained to my own birthday), but on Sawyer’s first birthday I thought back to his birth and meeting him for the first time. On my birthdays I never considered that my mom had me on that day and my dad was there in the hospital too. I just thought I was born on that day lol.
We were both excited and counting the days that Sawyer would be off formula. then it dawned on us that his food will now he his main source of nutrition. He will no longer rely on formula to give him all the nutrition he needs. It is not upon us to ensure he gets the proper nutrition and servings. Luckily Kecia read an article on babycenter about this. I still need to read over it myself to see how many servings of what he’s supposed to get.
With getting rid of formula comes getting rid of the bottle. He only had one bottle a day(at night) so he had to switch that up with a snack and cows milk instead. He’s taken the sudden change with stride so far. Next we will be getting rid of his pacifiers. He does not seem too attacked to them either so maybe that will not be a struggle either.
Getting Ready to Party
This past weekend, Kecia and I had a date night. Sawyer stayed with Kecia’s mom so we could have the night to ourselves..it may be the last one for a while since I will be traveling soon. We went out to eat at a Chinese buffet that I have been wanting for a while now. After dinner, we drove around to a few places to shop for Sawyer’s birthday party. We are doing the Baby Mickey theme since he loves the show so much. We were able to get his birthday invitations, party favors, plates, cups, tablecloth, balloons, etc…pretty much everything for the actual party. It was fun picking out the stuff for his first birthday, and I am glad that I was home to help with it. Now we just have to buy his presents and we are all set!
