Getting Ready to Party
This past weekend, Kecia and I had a date night. Sawyer stayed with Kecia’s mom so we could have the night to ourselves..it may be the last one for a while since I will be traveling soon. We went out to eat at a Chinese buffet that I have been wanting for a while now. After dinner, we drove around to a few places to shop for Sawyer’s birthday party. We are doing the Baby Mickey theme since he loves the show so much. We were able to get his birthday invitations, party favors, plates, cups, tablecloth, balloons, etc…pretty much everything for the actual party. It was fun picking out the stuff for his first birthday, and I am glad that I was home to help with it. Now we just have to buy his presents and we are all set!
Work and Travel
We are implementing a new GIS system at work and I was chosen to be head over the database development for the project. This is exciting news for me. I get to lead the other three Database Analysts in the development. While they know more about telephony and the older system I know the most about software development and SQL programming.
I think i was chosen because of my abilities and because my supervisor and his supervisor are trying to show the higher ups how beneficial I am to the company. I had been promised a promotion to Database Analyst 2 about 2 years ago and do far it has not happened. Hopefully if this all goes well the people that had been declining my promotion will finally give it over. They say it’s more of a money issue though, they do not want to give any one person that much of a raise at one time. To raise my pay to the minimum Analyst 2 pay they would have to give me a 15% raise I think. They have already given my a 4% raise in the meantime. My company is not broke they just bought another company for 2.3 billion dollars so it’s not an issue of not having the money, just an issue with parting with it.
With the new system comes training. I will be training engineers in PA,KY,GA and TX with each stop requiring a 2 week stay. This is no fun, I may miss some of Sawyer’s milestones I’m afraid. When I was in Huntsville, AL for training Sawyer said DaDa. Then when I was in Ohio for training he figured out how to push his ride on toy around. He luckily did start crawling while I was home. Now if he can make sure I’m home before he takes his first steps.
Another reason I hate leaving for 2 weeks at the time is because Kecia doesn’t get many breaks being a work at home mom. And this is technically a break for me even tough I will be working. I will always be worrying that she is having a difficult time with Sawyer. Her sister is staying there while I’m away so that will help out. I just wish there was more I could do with the little man while I was home to get me and him out of the house so Kecia can have some needed alone time.
Travelling for Work
I have been having to do a lot of traveling lately for my work. We are installing a new system and first, I was having to travel in order to be train. Now though, I will have to travel in order to train other people in my company. I’ve already been to Madison, Alabama and Hudson, Ohio. I won’t have to travel again until August when I will be going to Pennsylvania for two weeks.
It is kinda fun to travel and see new places as well as meet new people in my company, but I miss Kecia and Sawyer when I am gone. Kecia and her sister will talking about taking a road trip to join me in PA, but the dates of the trip recently got changed, so I don’t think they are going to be able to meet me up there now. I am so afraid I am going to miss Sawyer reaching a new milestone like walking.
I missed his first word, which was “da da” He said it the day before I came back home from Alabama. When he saw me that Friday, he looked at me and said it again. It felt so good to hear him say it when looking right at me, so we are pretty sure he knew what he was saying.
